2025 ECBA RINKS

The 2025 Rinks was hosted by Norfolk on 27th March, at Littleport.

The 22 entries came from across the Eastern region, as well as a couple of teams from the North.

The Teams were divided into two groups, one of 10 teams, the other of 12, with each team playing 4 games, and the top 4 from each group going forward to the Knockout Rounds.

Group 1
After 2 games only 3 teams had won both of their games. N Jolly, Herts/Durham, and Claydon. They had scored 27, 18, and 13 shots respectively. One other team, Kenninghall, were still undefeated, but had won one and drawn one.

The top 2 teams played one another, and it was Herts/Durham who came out just ahead. That meant that they had qualified with a game to go, and it was the same for Claydon, who also won. N Jolly and Hunters were both on 4 points, and would play each other in the final round of games, so Hundon and Kenninghall, who were both on 3 points, were still in with a shout of qualification.

Claydon and Herts/Durham both finished of with wins, to come home in first and second places respectively. The Hunters v N Jolly game was close, but went the way of Hunters, and Hundon on to move onto 5 points, which was good enough for 4th place.

Group 2
Four teams won both of their opening games. Stanningfield led the way on 25 shots, Littleport/Northborough had 22 shots, C.B.B. had 20, and Durham/Sunderland had 19. The next best teams were on 2 points.

Three teams made it 3 wins out of 3. C.B.B., Durham/Sunderland, and Littleport/Northborough, who were on 30, 29, and 28 shots, respectively. None had done enough to qualify, as Stanningfield and Bottisham were on 4 points. To make things even more interesting, C.B.B. and Littleport/Northborough would play each other in the final round.

Durham/Sunderland romped home to another win, to secure the top spot. A close game between the other two undefeated teams saw C.B.B. come out on top, taking second. Stanningfiield lost again, which meant that Littleport/Northborough hung on to third sport, by a single shot over Bottisham, who had climbed their way up the standings, having been down in 8th after 2 games, to take the final qualification spot.

Knockout Rounds
The Quarter Finals would see the group winners taking on the 4th placed team from the other group, and second playing third from the other group.

Claydon v Bottisham
Bottisham picked up a 4 on the seond end, and never looked back, another 3 on the third put them 7-2 up, and took another 4 on the final end to seal an 11-4 win.

Herts/Durham v Littleport/Northborough
Littleport won the first 3 ends, but only by a single shot on each. Herts/Durham cancelled out that fragile lead on the 4th end, and proceeded to win the rest, taking a 10-3 victory.

CBB v Hunters
It was all square at 3-3 after 4 ends, but Hunters, having led for the first 2 ends, retook the lead in the 5th with a single, and brought home the win with 2 on the next, and one at the end, having shut the opposition out, winning 7-3.

Durham/Sunderland v Hundon
Hundon took the lead with a single on the first, and never gave it up after that. 5-1 up after 4 ends, they went into the last with a slender single shot lead, but won out with a single on the last, taking the game 6-4.

Semi-Finals
Bottisham v Hunters

It was 2 all after 3 ends, but after they picked upa 3 on the next, Bottisham never looked back, reaching the final with a 10-2 win.

Herts/Durham v Hundon
After dropping 2 on the first end, Hundon chipped their way into a 5-2 lead with 2 ends to go, only to drop 2 on each of those ends, and end up on the wrong side of a 6-5 win for Herts/Durham

Final
Bottisham
(Matt & Emma Thurley and Simon & Amy Missing) v Herts/Durham (Pete & Marilyn Cook, Stephen Templeton and Dave Smith)
After a single to Herts/Durham on the first end, Bottisham struck back with a 3 on the next. They followed up with a single and a two to lead 6-1, after which Herts/Durham were left chasing the game as Bottisham kept applying the pressure, shutting the opposition out of the last two ends, and taking the win 8-2, to secure the title.

Many thanks to Norfolk fot organising the event, and for all who supported it.
