This was a very close finish
and Durham did well to claw back an eight point deficit to finish
one point ahead of Northumberland and push them into second place.
Northumberland were obviously
extremely disappointed having won three of the four fixtures
but can take heart at a much improved overall performance than
the one last year.
Sunderland had some problems
for two of the fixtures which resulted in them losing a number
of points but it is important to note they were still able to
compete and finished in a very creditable third place.
North and South Tyneside
played a major part in all of the fixtures by taking crucial
points from all of the counties that finished above them, sometimes
scores and points do not reflect the actual play and this was
the case in quite a few of their games. Both of these counties
have had to struggle with changes within their structure and
have proved to be both resilient and competitive, they remain
very important members of the Northern league and the ECBA.
We all wish Durham well
in the Friday night fixture at Blackpool and once again say well
done for winning the Northern league.
