Reduced format as North Tyneside
drop out of the last fixture. Sunderland too strong for Durham
and are clear winners of the last fixture.

Sunderland deserved winners
but a good showing from Durham. Northumberland held onto third
place. South Tyneside showed promise until the last fixture but
were weakened by absent players.
It was sad that North Tyneside
were unable to field a team for the last fixture unfortunately
it looks likely that they may disband as a county. This would
be a great loss to carpet bowls in the Northern region and to
the ECBA.
Congratulations to Sunderland
a team that has come a long way in a relatively short time they
will compete in the North v South match in October a Potters.

An outstanding performance
from Sunderland, only dropping 4 points gave them a resounding
victory on the day, and a lead that would be very difficult to
claw back.

As the table shows, Sunderland
were the deserved winners, they showed great consistency throughout
the four matches and we wish them luck when they play Suffolk
in November.
It is worth mentioning
that we adopted the substitution rule this year, and that helped
to keep two counties competing. This game isn't all about winning,
being able to take part means more than that to most players.

This was a very close finish
and Durham did well to claw back an eight point deficit to finish
one point ahead of Northumberland and push them into second place.
Northumberland were obviously
extremely disappointed having won three of the four fixtures
but can take heart at a much improved overall performance than
the one last year.
Sunderland had some problems
for two of the fixtures which resulted in them losing a number
of points but it is important to note they were still able to
compete and finished in a very creditable third place.
North and South Tyneside
played a major part in all of the fixtures by taking crucial
points from all of the counties that finished above them, sometimes
scores and points do not reflect the actual play and this was
the case in quite a few of their games. Both of these counties
have had to struggle with changes within their structure and
have proved to be both resilient and competitive, they remain
very important members of the Northern league and the ECBA.
We all wish Durham well
in the Friday night fixture at Blackpool and once again say well
done for winning the Northern league.
