Durham raised themselves up with 3 wins against Northumberland, Bedfordshire took one game off Sunderland, and Norfolk got the better of Cambridgeshire 2 games to 1. But the real change came with Herts' 3 wins over Essex.

After a slow start, that pushed Hertfordshire up into a tie for second, with Essex and Sunderland, and allowed Suffolk, who were sitting out, to retain their 5 point lead.

Norfolk dented Essex's hopes by taking 2 wins off them, Durham continued their push by dropping just a point to Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire picked up another maximum, this time against Bedfordshire.

But the big slash was between Suffolk and Sunderland, one which could have turned everything around, but Suffolk came out on top in all 3 games, to retain their 5 point advantage, with Hertfordshire now in a clear 2nd place, and Durham having risen to 3rd.

Cambridgeshire bumped themselves up with 3 wins against Beds, Sunderland got the better of Durham 2 games to 1, as did Northumberland against Norfolk. And while Herts could have caught all the way up to Suffolk, in their clash, and Herts did come out on top, Suffolk limited the damage by winning one of the games.

Hertfordshire had closed the gap at the top to just 3 points, but would have to sit out the last session of the day.

Essex won all 3 against Bedfordshire, as did Suffolk against Northumberland, but with Sunderland sitting out, the chasers stumbled, Durham could only come away with 2 points from Norfolk, and it was the same for Hertfordshire against Cambridgeshire.

Suffolk's lead had taken a lead up to 13 points, and it now felt like their closest rivals were really going to have their work cut out to chase them down.

Session 14 (Sunday)
Things stayed very much as they were for the top 3, as they all took 2 wins, Suffolk over Essex, Sunderland over Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire over Durham.

It was also the same for Bedfordshire, who won 2 and lost one against Northumberland, giving them their first winning session of the weekend.

Suffolk's gap at the top remained at 13 points over Herts, while Sunderland were 2 points further back, but with games in hand.

Session 16 (Sunday)
Hertfordshire did all they could, with 3 wins against Bedfordshire, while Cambridgeshire had a good session, with the same result against Durham, and Essex won 2 and lost 1 to Norfolk.

But the games that could have changed everything, were between Suffolk and Sunderland, and although it was close, it just went Suffolk's way, with 2 wins out of 3.

Suffolk's lead was cut t0 7 points, but Hertfordshire would have to sit out the last session, and so were out of contention, leaving only Sunderland with a chance. However, they were 11 points behind, and could only gain another 12 in the 2 remaining sessions.

Cambridgeshire took a maximum 6 points off Bedfordshire, Norfolk won 2 out of 3 against Northumberland, and Sunderland did all they could with 3 wins against Durham.

The remaining head-to-head was Suffolk against Hertfordshire, Suffolk needed just 2 points to secure the title, but Herts were fighting for that runner-up spot. And while Herts were close to taking all 3 games, Suffolk managed the one win they needed to put themselves out of reach.

Final Session
Perhaps understandably, Bedfordshire had struggled on their return to Potters, but they will have taken heart from that winning session over Northumberland, and from the games where they only lost by the odd shot or two.

Northumberland had a great start to their tournament, and a good Saturday overall, but faded somewhat on Sunday, to drop from 7th to 8th.

Norfolk did not have a great Saturday, but Sunday was a huge improvement, 28 points compared with 17, which was equal 4th best on the second day.

Durham was the exact opposite of Norfolk, 29 points on the first day, when they were in contention, but only 16 on the second, which saw them drop from 4th to finish 7th.

Cambridgeshire were another team who had a better second day, allowing them to almost catch Essex for 4th, just missing out by a point.

Essex had got off to a very fast start on Saturday, but had faded badly, had a better Sunday, allowing them to hold on to 4th place.

Sunderland needed 3 points from their final session, against Norfolk, to secure 2nd place, but just couldn't manage it, they only won one of the games, and so ended up missing out on the runner-up spot by a mere 13 shots.

Hertfordshire had come extremely close to take the title in the past 2 years, but this year had to spend most of Saturday and all Sunday trying to chase Suffolk down, after a dissapointing start to the weekend. But they will take some comfort from knowing that they were the only county to beat Suffolk overall, in their head-to-heads, winning 4 out of 6 games.

After two desperately close wins in the last 2 years, Suffolk's win looks relatively easy, but only on paper. In the end it was simply down to not making any slip-ups, and to minimise any damage when playing their closest rivals.

It was Suffolk's 11th straight title win, taking them to 16 wins overall, finally allowing them to surpass Cambridgeshire's record of 15 wins.
