On Sunday 14th
April, Hertfordshire hosted the 2019 Six Counties Championship,
at Littleport Leisure Centre.
Game 1
It was a perfect start for Cambridgeshire as they took a maximum
12 points off Bedfordshire. Suffolk took 9 points off Norfolk
and Essex and Hertfordshire split their games evenly and both
came away with 6 points.
Game 2
Cambridgeshire continued to lead the way although they could
only share a 6-6 draw with Norfolk. Meanwhile Suffolk moved a
little closer as they just came out ahead of Hertfordshire 7-5
and Essex closed in on both of them with a 9-3 win over Bedfordshire.
The top 3 were
now Cambridgeshire on 18 points, Suffolk on 16 and Essex on 15.
Game 3
The next session would be crucial as the top 2 teams played one
another.
And it was a
decisive win for Suffolk who came away with 9 points against
Cambridgeshires 3. Essex now moved into second, 3 points
behind Suffolk, having beat Norfolk 7-5, while Herts beat Bedfordshire
9-3.
Suffolk were
now on 25, Essex 22, Cambridgeshire 21 and Hertfordshire 20.
Game 4
Crunch time again as Essex played Suffolk and they started off
very well, taking 7 points from the first 4 games to leapfrog
Suffolk, however the remaining games went to Suffolk, taking
them just back in front again by one point.
Hertfordshire
just got the better of Cambridgeshire (7-5) and Norfolk got the
better of Bedfordshire 8-4.
Overall it had
all closed in at the top, Suffolk were on 30, Essex 29, Herts
27 and Cambs 26.
Game 5
Although Suffolk's lead was a slim one it meant that their fate
was in their own hands, if they won all their remaining games
there was nothing the opposition could do and against a Bedfordshire
team who had struggled all day, they did just that to regain
the trophy.
Norfolk could
only take 4 points off Hertfordshire, leaving them in 5th place
and keeping Herts in third.
The remaining
game saw Essex and Cambridgeshire taking one another on with
Essex holding a 3 point advantage which, given their form so
far they seemed ceratin to do, but instead they had a horrible
session, managing to win only one of the six games allowing Cambridgeshire
to leap up to second and dropping Essex to fourth overall.
