The 2026 Eastern Counties Champions
of Champions event was hosted by Norfolk at Littleport, on Sunday
10th May.
Fours
Cambridgeshire and Suffolk were the only teams to win both of
their opening games, but while Cambs went on to make it 3 out
of 3, Suffolk lost.
The fourth round of games saw
Cambs maintain their undefeated record with a draw, which allowed
Herts to draw within a point.
However Cambridgshire suffered
a heavy defeat in their final game, allowing Hertfordshire, who
picked up a fourth win, to come through and retain the title
the same Four won in 2025.
Winners: Hertfordshire
(Matt & Emma Thurley and Simon & Amy Missing)
Triples
Cambridgeshire and Essex won their first two games while everyone
else had suffered at least one loss. However both leaders went
on to lose their next game, leading to a four-way tie between
them, Hertfordshire and Suffolk.
Of the four only Suffolk and
Cambridgeshire won again and with the two of them playing one
another in the final round of games, no one else was in contention.
Suffolk made a good start, but
allowed Cambridgeshire to come from behind to take both the win
and the title.
Winners: Cambridgeshire
(Beryl Wicks, Paul Ellis & Colin Wicks)
Pairs
Only Suffolk were undefeated after 2 games. They also won their
third game with Hertfordshire the only other team to have won
more than once.
With the top 2 teams playing
one another in the penultimate round of games, a win for Suffolk
would secure them the tiel with a game to spare, and that's just
what they did.
They went on to win their 5th
game, making them the only team in any discipline not to lose
a game all day.
The win meant that Neil is now
the second person to win all 4 disciplines at the ECCBA Champion
of Champions, after Paul Ellis.
Winners: Suffolk (Neil
Jolly & Tom Runnacles)
Singles
Peter Orrin (Essex) was the only undefeated player after 2 games,
but he lost his third and with Pete Cook (Herts) and Matt Frost
(Norfolk) winning, it was a 3-way tie at the top.
Peter lost again and with Pete
and Matt both winning, it was all going to come down to the final
head-to-head game between the pair of them.
Pete led from the start but a
full house to Matt on the 7th end got him back to within a shot.
However Pete replied with a 3 which meant that the shot advantage
he held at the before the game started meant that he couldn't
lose the tiitle.
He finished on 8 points, to retain
the title, with Peter, Matt and David Foulkes (Cambs) 2 points
behind.
Winner: Pete Cook (Hertfordshire)
Team
The first session finished with all 6 counties on 4 points, but
it didn;t stay that close for long and after the next session
Suffolk and Essex led the way on 12 points with Herts 4 behind.
Herts climbed up to share the
lead with Suffolk after 3 sessions, with Cambs just 2 points
behind, and the rest of the day would see the three of them fighting
it out for the title.
With 4 rounds down the 3 of them
were seperated by just 1 point, with Cambridgeshire now on top,
but it was Herts who came through for the win, finishing on 26
points, one ahead of Cambs, with Suffolk on 24.
Winners: Hertfordshire
