ECCBA CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 2025

The 2025 Eastern Counties Champions of Champions event was hosted by Cambridgeshire at Littleport, on Sunday 11th May.

Fours
Hertfordshire won their first two games, while Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, who had each won 1 and drawn 1, were a point behind.

Herts were held to a draw in their next game, and still held the lead, but only just, as Essex, Cambridgeshire, and Suffolk sat only a point behind.

Herts drew again, but a win for Suffolk brought them level on 6 points, while Essex were just behind on 5.

Herts beat Suffolk in the final game, securing them the title with 8 points, while Essex won to push them up to second, on 7 points.

Winners: Hertfordshire (Matt & Emma Thurley and Simon & Amy Missing)

Triples
Suffolk were the only team to win both opening games, they were one point ahead of Norfolk.

A third win for Suffolk now saw them 2 points clear of next best Essex. Norfolk and Cambs were a further point back.

Suffolk made it 4 out of 4, while their closest challengers all lost, that gave them a 4 point lead with just one game to go, and meant that they had already secured the title.

Suffolk rounded the day out with a 5th win (the only team to finish with a perfect record in any of the disciplines). They finished 4 points clear of runners-up Essex.

Winners: Suffolk (Sam Runnacles, Andy Pooley & David Ford)

Pairs
Hertfordshire and Essex started with two wins each, while Cambridgeshire had dropped just one point from their two games.

It was now a two horse race, as Herts and Essex both won for a third time. The two of them were 3 points clear of next best Cambs.

The top 2 teams played one another in the game that would probably settle the title, and it went the way of Herts. They held a 2 point and 17 shot advantage over the only team that could catch them, Essex.

Although Hertfordshire lost their final game, they finsihed securely out in front, with Cambridgeshire coming up to grab the runner-up spot, one point behind.

Winners: Hertfordshire (Jason Ellis & Jack Smalley)

Singles
Rita Runnacles (Suffolk) began by winning her first 2 games, she was a point ahead of Pete Cook (Herts).

Rita took a draw in her third game, but that was still good enough to lead. Matt Frost (Norfolk) was now second on 4 points.

Rita lost out to Matt, which meant that he went to the top on 6 points, while Pete won to put him on 5 points, along with Rita.

Unfortunately for Matt, he lost his final game, and it was Pete who came through to take overall victory, he finished on 7 points, with Matt and Keith Cockings (Beds) both on 6 points.

Winner: Pete Cook (Hertfordshire)

Team
After 2 rounds only one point separated Herts and Suffolk (11 points), and Essex (10 points).

With 3 rounds down Suffolk held a narrow lead, they were on 17 points, Essex were on 16, and Herts 14.

Suffolk still led the way (23 pts), but now from Hertfordshire (21), while Essex (17) had fallen out of contention.

Suffolk and Hertfordshire faced-off in the final round of games, with Suffolk needing to gain 4 points to take the win, while Herts would need 5, as they held a clear shot advantage. The Fours went the way of Herts, and the the Triples went to Suffolk, so it was all down to the Singles and Pairs. Although Pete only won by a single shot against Rita, he was always in front. And it was the same for the Pairs, with Herts leading from the start, but Suffolk staged an unlikely comeback, grabbed 3 shots on the final end to win the game by a shot, and Suffolk (27 points) took the overall win by 2 points from Herts.

Winners: Suffolk
