Over 1 completed the double on Wednesday Night by winning the final of the East Cambs Carpet Bowls Association Knock-Out Cup, having already won the East Cambs Carpet Bowls League Division 1 this season.

The KO Cup Final was held at Ross Peers Sports Centre, Soham and in the final the first two games of Fours saw Over 1 get away to a good start by winning them both by 10 – 1 and 10 – 2.

However Isleham fought back during the next four games of pairs by winning two of them, but as the competition is won on overall shots it was not a good enough recovery and Over 1 finished by winning 50 shots to 25.

EAST CAMBS TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP 2011/2012

On Sunday 26th February East Cambs CBA held its Triples Championships at the Ross Peers Sports Centre.

The 9 teams entered played 4 matches to determine the 4 semi-finalists, these were Swaffham Prior, Colne, Over and Littleport Village Hall. The semi-final between Swaffham Prior and Littleport Village Hall was very close with Swaffham Prior leading 6-4 going into the 9th and final end, only for Littleport Village Hall to pick up a 3 and claim their place in the final. The second semi-final was not a close as Over dominated the match eventually winning 12-3.

The final was another close game with both teams producing some great bowling; after 8 ends both teams were level at 7-7. The last end saw the final go one way and then the other as both teams continued to bowl at a high standard, it wasn’t until the final wood delivered was the title decided with Littleport Village Hall picking up the one shot to win.

A special mention also to Harry Smith aged 9 who played in the Over team that were runners up, he collects his first ever bowls trophy and also becomes the youngest bowler to play in a Cambridgeshire County Final!
