Bedfordshire
Fours 2022/23
After a wait of 3 years and 1
month the County finally ran its Fours competition at Barton
Le Clay.
15 entries were drawn into 3
groups of 5, with the group winners and best runner-up going
through to the semi-finals.
Two groups had clear winners Patricia Ball (Colmworth) won all
their games as did Keith Cockings (Turvey).
Group B was headed by Perter
Belcher (Barton) on 6pts but their last game against Daniel Walker
(Clophill) would decide the group. Daniel won, which left both
teams on 6pts, Peter took the group win, but Daniel also progressed
with 6pts as the best runner-up.
The draw for the semi-finals meant Barton would play Clophill,
and Turvey would play Colmworth.
Barton v Clophill was very tight game with Clophill edging it
8-7 on the last end, Turvey, meanwhile, eased out to 8-2 on Colmworth
who scored 3 on the last end to finish the game at 8-5 to Turvey.
Final
Clophill v Turvey
The final saw some excellent bowling by two very evenly matched
teams but Clophill eased out to an 8-3 lead which saw Turvey
chasing shots, a difficult thing to do with very tight ends.
The final score was 8-5 to Clophill. Congratulations to Pete,
Shelia, Pam and Daniel on their win, and commiserations to Mathew,
Andrew, Paul and Keith.
Thanks to Rita (new Competion Secretary) and Jill (Chair), for
their hard work getting the competions back, plus all who assisted
with everything on the day.
